Inspect your goods to be stored and make a list of the packing accessories which you will need. Commonly used packing aids include such items as wrapping paper, bubble wrap, tape, drop cloths, polyurethane sheeting, mattress and furniture covers and packing boxes.
Use all the space available but be sure to leave some room for air flow, many items can be stacked high, ensure you stack item as high as possible but not dangerously so they don’t fall and damage your goods. Disassemble items such as bed frames and tables they will stack in a lot neater.
Place frequently used items near the front of the space. Fill packing boxes to capacity. Partially full or bulging boxes may tip or collapse. Heavy items such as books or tools should be packed in smaller boxes. If a carton is too heavy, it will be hard to lift and stack.
Fragile items should be cushioned by bubble wrap or plenty of paper and stacked on top, never stack fragile items under other boxes, they should also be labelled correctly with fragile tape or stickers. Label boxes and make a list to leave in the storage unit, take home a copy of the list of boxes for easy reference when you need to locate something in your storage unit.
